In 2015 LCU held an assembly with 450 leaders and presented a strategy to address the need for mental health resources. This strategy included addressing the lack of hospital beds for those in a mental crisis.
When LCU learned a proposal for a mental health hospital was turned down in Northbrook, LCU leaders quickly built the needed community support to assure state and city approval for a behavioral hospital in Lake County.
On June 8, 2020 Lake Behavioral Hospital opened in Waukegan with 146 beds. LCU has continued to work together with Lake Behavioral Hospital and their parent company, US HealthVest, to expanded needed services and increase quality housing. Enjoy this tour of the Hospital.
