In January a team of eight leaders and organizers from LCU and affiliates (United Power for Action and Justice, Fox River Valley Initiative, DuPage United) met with Governor Pritzker and his top staff for the second time since the Governor took office in January 2019. Leaders urged the Governor to expand Medicaid reimbursement for crisis stabilization units (CSU) for those in a mental crisis as an alternative to jail and hospital emergency departments. In addition leaders pressed for immediate release of committed state funds for two shovel ready affordable housing plans for the southwest and west side of Chicago. Leaders are working toward a larger assembly with the Governor this summer.
